CCI08132012_0000.JPGBatavia Daily News: May, 2012 - PEMBROKE

A new Pembroke Intermediate School playground was funded by a $50,000 grant from the Pepsi Refresh project, as well as contributions form the Pembroke PTA. The grant was initiated by Superintendent Matt Calderon. The Pembroke PTA did the work necessary to secure the grant.

On May 11, community members began construction of the playground. Pat and Traci Wester provide a crew of five skilled craftsmen from their company, A to Z construction.

A to Z also provide lunch for the workers, as well as construction materials. Home Depot provided a crew of four employees, as well as concrete and other construction materials for the job.

On May 12, another dedicated crowd from the Corfu/Pembroke community showed up. The Corfu Fire Department provided laborers and also provided lunch for the workers.

Intermediate school principle Chip Foster came out on his day off and had fun shoveling concrete and mulch all day long. Mayor Todd Skeet was also seen working hard on both days.

The Playground is nearing completion now. Some curbing, a few more accessories and more mulch will complete the job.

The Corfu/Pembroke community is to be commended for the all the hard work that wen into this project, all the for the benefit of the children of the community.
